More on Fargo's crime stats...

Hmmm.... it looks like there's a reason Fargo ranked as merely the 12th-safest city:
Including motor vehicle thefts in the data may have kept Fargo from ranking even higher on the list, said Sgt. Jeff Skuza. A vehicle is stolen every other day in the community, prompting police to kick off a campaign this fall to draw attention to the problem.

Most of the thefts could be prevented if people didn’t leave the keys in the car,” Skuza said.
The Forum, Fargo gets high marks as safe city

Editor's note: A great friend read this and remarked, "Presumably the keys are in the car because the engine is still running, so as to keep the heater on, in order to save the driver’s life." Not so -- they park, kill the engine, and leave. When we visited, Jen noticed keys in the ignition of the car parked next to us at the shopping mall and was very concerned. We actually considered flagging down a cop.
